Joy As Resistance - Panel Discussion: How we achieve collective liberation through joy, community and solidarity

Here4TheKids Connecticut, Jewish Voice for Peace New Haven and the Palestine Museum US are delighted to present Joy As Resistance, a panel discussion on how to achieve collective liberation through joy, community, and solidarity.

All money raised from the evening will go towards Palestine Museum US and Palestine Legal, an independent organization dedicated to protecting the civil and constitutional rights of people in the U.S. who speak out for Palestinian freedom.

Please note: to protect our community masks are required for the in-person Joy As Resistance event.

5:30pm - Arrivals and Art - Join us at the Palestine Museum US in Connecticut to explore and celebrate art and culture from Palestine and the diaspora.

6:30pm - An Address from Museum Director Faisal Saleh - Faisal Saleh will address the event-at-large and ground us in the reality of the Palestinian experience.

6:40pm - Panel Discussion: Joy As Resistance - We will hear from our panelists who will discuss how to find solace in community, by celebrating life, joy and solidarity.

7:20pm - Q&A - Time permitting, we will have a few questions directly from the audience for panelists.

SPEAKERS + PANELISTS - Introduction: Faisal Saleh - Introductions will be given by Palestine Museum US Director Faisal Saleh who will ground us in the reality of the Palestinian experience. Faisal is a Palestinian-American businessman who, after more than 40 years of entrepreneurial work, turned his attention to managing the most ambitious Palestinian media project in the United States.

Panelists: Nour Alqaddumi - Nour is is a senior at the University of Conneticut (UCONN) and Vice President of 'Students for Justice in Palestine'. Recognized as a key organizer within the movement in Connecticut, Nour serves on the steering committee of the Connecticut Palestine Solidarity Coalition and holds a position on the board of Eyewitness Palestine. / Jazmarie Melendez - Jazmarie is the Founder & Co-Director of Justice 4 Jayson, and is also the Bridgeport City Council Member who spearhead the passage of the ceasefire resolution in Bridgeport Council; the first in the state of Connecticut. / Layan Alnajjar - Layan graduated from UCONN last year, where she served as President of 'Students for Justice in Palestine'. Layan is an organizer in CT and MA and is heavily involved in activism through education and demonstrations. Currently, she's on the executive steering committee of the Connecticut Palestine Solidarity Coalition and is a member of the Boston Coalition for Palestine. / Kerry Ellington - Kerry Ellington is a freedom fighter, grassroot community organizer and radical educator, recently recognized by Connecticut Magazine as, "Connecticut's 40 Under 40". As a Community Organizer she organizes to address issues of police violence, housing, community and economic justice. / Shelly Altman - Shelly traveled to Palestine as a software architect and returned as a community organizer. "You can't un-see what you have seen." Shelly is an elder organizer for Jewish Voice for Peace in Connecticut, and lives and finds joy in New Haven's resistance to oppression (and also on his bike!).

Moderator: Jo Lorenz - Jo is one of the lead national organizers and Communications Director for abolitionist education movement, Here4TheKids. Jo is also the Co-Founder of the political and sociopolitical social platform, The Progressivists, with more than 1 million followers - and uses her platform to promote collective liberation and fight fascism.
